Which Avet fishing reel should I use for burning bucktails for muskies?
I'm going a lilttle crazy tryiing to decide which Avet reel I should purchase to use for burning large bucktails (#10/#12 bucktails). I want to be able to burn bucktails with ease and so that my wrists don't hurt after casting it for a few hours. SX Raptor (too small?), MXJ, MXJ Raptor, MXL, MXL Raptor, JX, or JX Raptor versions?
I'm definitely going to get the M.C. Cast Control System option, and will probably opt for the Raptor...but I can't decide on which size to get. Is the SX versions too small? Do you prefer any of the other versions due to better line pickup per turn?
I would really appreciate any and all thoughts. I wish I could test them out here in Wisconsin before buying one!
Thanks in advance!!
Don't you think a leverdrag two-speed Avet is just a little bit overkill for muskies? I mean seriously, I thought me using a Penn Nine-Sixty-Five for bass fishing was a little overkill, but an Avet? Jesus...
Anyway, for burning you want a high-speed retrieve. I've held several Avets in my hands, but never used them. I'm not a big fan of 'em. The last ones I saw I don't remember which models they are, but they really weren't all that "high-speed". I believe they were five-point-five-to-one gear ratios in low and six-point-something in high.
Here's the website... http://www.avetreels.net/ ...check 'em out yourself.
