My iridescent shark is in shock?
I just took home a juvenile iridescent shark. He darted around the tank as the fish keeper tried to catch him. I know they sometimes "knock themselves out" and as i seen him in the bag still in the pet store i knew right away he may have been in shock and took it anyway. i floated him for a half an hour and he sunk to the bottom. My water parameters are ok and the tank size is 55gal. How do i de stress him or is it to the point of no return?
This is actually normal for them. What people in pet stores don't know is that juvenile iridescent sharks are a schooling fish. When they're in the tak in the store with all the other sharks, they're having a ball swimming around. Right now, your guy (girl?) is stressed and nervous because it's by itself. So it's going to hide until it's comfortable in its new surroundings.
Don't feel tempted to go out and buy any more for company, when they become adults, they're solitary. And having one fish with the potential to grow to nearly 4 feet , although they only get a foot or so long in captivity, is enough for anybody. Did the pet store neglect to tell you that fact too?
