Bait Fishing Lures

Can someone give me some tips on trout fishing? Bait, lures...anything!!!?
Let me add some detail...I'm fishing in a lake that stocks about 1000lb of trout every 2 weeks. I'm fishing with some power bait I got from Walmart's fishing area. No luck so far though. I'd like to know if there's a type of lure I can use or any other kind of bait...
This sounds crazy, but make sure you are fishing in a lake, stream or river that contains trout. Trout need cool well oxygenated water to live, and so do not inhabit all areas. I had a guy ask me last week if I was trout fishing, while I was carp fishing on the Mississippi river!
Trout are mainly insectivours. They thrive on under water bugs in various life stages, terrestrial or land insects (ants, beetles, worms etc) that fall in the water. As they grow they will also begin to eat other fish.
For bait....a nightcrawler fished on the bottom is very effective. Due to the habit of trout to get hooked deep while fishing live bait, only use crawlers if you are planning on eating the fish.
Lures...for spin fishing, panther martin spinners and small mepps spinners are killers! they catch lots of fish and big fish too. Rapalas work great, especially during dusk or dawn to entice huge trout (I'm thinking browns).
Flyfishing is a "traditional" way to angle for trout. If you are planning on flyfishing, there are flys that are fished on the top of the water (dry flys and poppers) and there are flys fished below the surface (nymphs, streamers and wet flys)
Futher, some of these flys are made to look like replicas of the actual insect or animal, while others are tied to look a liitle like a lot of things, while being nothing in particular. These are attractors.
I would get (or tie)
Elk wing caddis (sz 12-16), Adams (sz 14-20), Royal Wulff (sz 10-16), ants (sz 16-20), beetles (sz 12-18), Hare's ear nymph (sz 12-18), Bead Head Pheasant tail nymph (sz 14-18), Deep Sparkle Caddis Pupae (sz 12-16).
These are pretty basic, found at most shops that sell flys and cover alot of water and situations.
Good luck
