Need fishing tips for salwater and brackish on Georgia coast?
We are new to the coast of Ga and live on a river that is brackish and then heads out to all salt. I need to know what kind of fish are popular in these waters(salt & brackish) and what are the best lures or bait to use. We are usually in 25-40' in salt or anywhere from 5' to 20' in the brackish. Also, I hear so many people talk about when is the best time for fishing that it is so hard to know whats right from wrong. I am a girl and I love to fish on our boat but am not familiar with these waters I am in serious need of any advice you can give from the lure/bait to the line, type of fish out here, time of day etc.. Thank you for all advice
hey, i am also on the coast of georgia. i am right outside of savannah ga. well to your answer.i use spinning reels with a good braided line becuase you really never know what type of fish you will get hold to. from little fish to good sized sharks. brackish water isnt really tricky but it is a lil different. the best times that i like to go fishing in brackish water is when the tide is coming in or going out. i havent had alot of luck when the tide is dead low or dead high. if you want to fish with live bait..use a popping cork with live shrimp if you have the access to them. dead and pre frozen shrimp work too but nowhere near as good as live shrimp if you wanna fish with artificial, i like the DOA shrimp lure. it is a great lure. i have caught fish on it in brackish water and streight salt. really good lure. you can also fish bottom. get you a fishing rig that holds two hooks or just one if you like and put on a 3 ounce pyrimid weight on it hook up some dead shrimp on it. the fish that i have caught vary from...whitting, croaker, sheep head, drum, redfish, spottail bass, black tip shark, catfish, and i dont know how much salt water fishing you have done or what you have caught but if you get ahold of a stingray just cut the line....dont try to get the hook out. hooks are made now that if they stay in the water for more than a couple weeks they eventually rust in half so they fall out of the fishes mouth. i am still waiting on my arm to heal from almost 2 months ago when i got stabbed by a ray. that was the most painful thing that i have ever went through. if by some chance you do get hit by one you have about 15-20 min before the pain really hits you....squeeze around the area and try to get as much posion out as you can and get to hooootttttt water. hot water is the only thing that will nutralize the posion...soak it in epsom salt water with the water so hot that you just can stand it. i hope that helps you a little good luck good fishin be safe and remember to share the experience
