Baitcaster Reel questions?
Hello everyone, Ive asked this before but its was before summer and nows the time when i need the information. Im on the market for a new Baitcaster Fishing Reel. Im looking to spend $125 to $175 tops. Im new to these and ive heard they can be really tricky. So my question what are the best models for my price range and whats best for a beginner. Ive been fishing for 20 years im not new to fishing just bait casters. So something maybe in the intermediate stage because i dont want to buy then have to upgrade next year. Also i will be purchasing this from Bass pro shop or Cabelas. So thanks for the help in advance. And if you could explain some of the differences between reels i would appreciate that too like say, why go with this one and not this one.
in fishing as in most anything else, "you get what you pay for".
EITHER (you get TWO choices here):
increase your budget to 200 bucks and purchase a shimano curado which is as much reel as you can find from a regular manufacturer in that price range - it's really a sweet reel.
OR:
purchase from either bass pro shop or cabela's their own brand in the best your budget can stand. they offer some high quality rods and reels in their higher lines of tackle. better by far than anything you will pull off the shelf at one of the discount marts. the rod/reel combos offer even better deals with usually an extra 50 bucks off the price.
l have several rods and reels from both. l'm quite happy with them.
check the johnny morris series at BPS and the prodigy line-up at cabela's.
good luck.
most people that become unhappy with BC tackle is because they bought crappy stuff with inferior bearings and materials. the weight of the spool also needs to be taken into consideration. lighter will cast better. a large capacity spool full of line will weigh much more than a large arbor spool with sufficient line to fish. plus you don't have 250 more yards of line on the reel than you will ever use.
and if you start off with better gear, you won't be replacing it after the first year.
