what are the diffrent kinds of fishing line are there and what are they use for (ie) mono, floro, braid?
and what is the (example 10Lbs test line) what is it call that and what does it mean
well flouro is supposidely invisible underwater, but due to evidence i saw in saltwater fishing magazine i dont believe it, the flouro line was just as visible as monofilament. If you are new to fishing, you should use mono, its the easiest line to handle and causes the least amount of problems, and is pretty damn cheap. about 7 bucks for over a 1000 yards of 8-12# test. Braided line is either Spectra or Dacron, you should go with spectra, preferably the power pro brand. This line is very thin compared to monofilament. 10# braid is about the thickness of 2# mono. Meaning you can put a lot more of it on your reels. It is much tougher than mono, has no stretch, this means you can feel even the smallest nibble at 150 yards away, this stuff will likely last you years to come. Only thing is, i never use straight braid, i always use a mono leader or topshot. When i fish off of the beach, i use a mono leader tied to a swivel, everywhere else, i use at least 10 yards of mono "top shot" on top of my braid line. The reason for this is to add a shock absorber so it is not easy for the fish to just tear the hook out of its mouth and so if your rig gets snagged on a rock or a fat piece of kelp, you can break off your mono line and still have your braid. Since braid will probably not break, if your rig gets stuck, you have to cut your line, meaning you can lose a bunch of that expensive line. Start fishing with mono, after you get the hang of things and everything is pretty much automatic, get some braid.
