Building Blank Kit

OS Installing Problem Still?
Im trying to install Vista 64 bit onto a home built pc. It is a OEM system builder pack FYI. My computer can detect my sata cd drive and sata hard drive in the bios, however when it tries to go any further, the white writing says no drives could be found. Anyway, after this the Pc tells me to 'reboot and select boot device or insert boot media...' So then i put in my vista cd and a loading bar comes up saying windows loading files, after this though, there is just a black blank screen and nothing happens. After a quick google search, i change my cd drive to first in my boot order list in the bios followed by the hard drive. Still the same things happen. Now this is where i'm stuck. There is no boot from cd option on startup like ive heard about, and no clue what to do next.
P.S.
-It says something on the Vista cd case about a OEM preinstallation kit?
Do i need this and what is it?
hi mate
yes this is a bios issue for sure and i experienced similar problems when installing a 250gb sata drive on a build the other week
the main problem is that allthough every p.c needs a bios there are several different types and version of the bios and everyone is different, for example a compaq p.c will have a pretty limited and basic bios which can be a advantage for novices however the most commoon bios the "award" bios from phoinex technologies has loads of options and plenty of sata configurations
to install a sata hard drive and sata optical drive you need to remember that sata devices work in channels and not in a master/slave configuration like the old ide drives
sata settings can be found in the "intergrated peripherals" in the bios, and then in the sub section "onchip ide device"
there you need to set the sata configurations as follows
sata mode : [ ide ]
on-chip serial ata : [ enhanced mode ]
serial ata port 0 mode : [ sata 0 master ]
serial ata port 1 mode : [ sata 0 master ]
these settings allow for a motherboard using 2 sata ports with both classed as a master drive,so its ideal for a single hard and optical drive, also in enhanced mode ide primary and secondary ports are still enabled
however i believe your problems may be the operating system itself and being a 64bit os this may be causing your problems,is there any way you can try a 32bit version of windows vista(or even xp) just to cancel out the chance it may the the 64bit issue thats causing this
Upgrading a 32-bit operating system to a 64-bit operating system If you purchase a 64-bit upgrade version of Windows Vista with the intention of installing on a computer that is running a 32-bit operating system, you must install Windows Vista by starting the computer from the 64-bit Vista installation DVD.,this is from the microsoft vista support website
and from what i have found from looking on other related sites is you may be better trying to install the 64bit windows vista from a previous version of windows such as windows xp
also there is some important information at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929777 which may help
any problems let me know
good luck mate !
