what do i need for floating?
i haven't floated a horse is awhile :> [not my own]
so I'm going to pick up my 13hh new baby ![]()
she's 4 been floated and will be re-floated for me before i come so no big dramas there, im good with loading horses [work with Shetlands they like to dart out of the float with you haha and my pony had a mental fear of trailers]
well anyway what do i need,
i have down
Hay bag with hay
bucket of chaff [in case]
treats
halter / lead rope
i don't know about rugs [depends if my only spare one fits which is packed]
anything i should add?
its a free horse haha, i dont trust it
No not really
I just picked up my new horse today and we travelled 190km.
I took with me:
- Headstall and lead rope (check the correct size required)
- Floating boots (which I did not end up putting on, as he has not travelled in them before)
- Hay in a hay net
I did not take a rug as my float is fully enclosed (some of his rugs came with him too, but I left them off). I had my riding gear with me, as I gave him one last ride before I purchased him.
He travelled very well and has settled in beautifully, so I'm pretty happy. I'm looking forward to getting to know him tomorrow.
I'm sure your horse will travel well and you will have no problems at all
If your a bit concerned about loading? I always like to let the old owners handle the horse and lead them on, mainly because this is already a trusted person to them. When I sell a horse I always lead them on the float when they leave. I have never had any issues or dramas this way
Take plenty of time and you will be fine. If it is a long drive, allow plenty of time and try to be home in day light.
I hope you enjoy your new horse, have lots of fun!
Good luck
