whats a good conventional reel for shark or general surf fishing?
i have a 15 ft surf rod and just saved an extra $100 so whats a good convectional reel good for surf fishing for sharks that casts well and can hold a ton of line for a maximum of $100 i would like my mainline to be 100lb mono but if the reel holds less than 200yards i will use braid a very smooth drag and if possible a clicker
this part is much less important but i want it to look cool
Penn Jigmaster. very castable reel, holds plenty of line.
Wait, you want 100 pound mono, never mind.
Update:
Ok. I don't understand the thumb down. 100 pound monofilament is THICK and there is no reel in the world that is going to cast it, I don't care how far or how short. A Penn Senator 4/0? Really? Casting it? Yeah, with 50 pound mono and a 1 1/2 pound lead diamond jig maybe. You might be able to lob it out 10 or 12 yards if that.
You don't NEED such a big f'n reel or main line for a shark. For threshers in SoCal, I use my bass swimbait outfit... extra heavy Shimano Crucial rod, swap the International 965 with the International 975 loaded with 30 (THIRTY) pound mono and a 6 or 8 ounce torpedo sinker. I cast out the sinker as far as I can... between 110 and 120 feet. Then I take about a 10 foot piece of 100 pound mono for leader, tie on a big heavy snap swivel and attach it my 30 pound MAIN LINE so it moves up and down freely.. that's called a TROLLEY RIG. Then I take a live mackeral about 12 or so inches long and let it slide down into the water to let it swim around with no trouble.
