should i get a spinning reel or a casting reel for surf/pier fishing?
what would be the disadvantages or advantages for using one or the other. I know what they both are and how they are used, im just not sure which would be better for surf/pier fishing
For surf fishing, you'll definitely need casting distance to get over the breakers. Which in that case, you'll want a casting reel only if you're experienced with them. If not, go with a spinning reel. Casting reels are built better than spinning reels with higher quality components and heavier duty drags. You'll cast farther and more accurately also.
For pier fishing, if you're going to be doing a lot of vertical jigging, again a casting reel will be better than a spinning reel. For one, the heavier duty drag will help a lot more during a vertical hookset.
