Im going to go Deep sea fishing very soon. Im goin for red snapper & sea bass What are the best baits/lures?
So, what would you suggest would work great? This is going to be in a party boat full day trip.
Off Southern California, the tackle/baits/lures vary depending on where you're going. Bait is provided on the boat, and so you don't have to worry about that. At times, heavy lead jigs like Jax Jigs work just fine -- these are available in 4-12 ounces or so, check with the landing to see what size you might need (4 ounces in 100 feet or shallower, 6-8 ounces in 200 feet, 10-12+ in 300 feet). Lingcod season is now open, and I've done well on them with the jigs when no bigger baits are available. Plastics will work, but you need a big leadhead (3-4 ounces +) to get down to the bottom. You can tip either type of lure with a strip of squid or a strip of mackerel if the bare lure doesn't do it.
If the white seabass are biting (they really haven't bit yet this spring) you'll be fishing near the bottom in probably 50-90 feet of water, with 3-4 ounces of weight and a squid for bait, on probably 30 pound line. Check with the crew for rigging instructions.
If you're talking about some other part of the country, none of this applies except for "check with the crew" and "check with the landing."
