largemouth bass for northen u.s ??
i live in connecticut and recently caught a 6.8 pound largemouth bass, is that big for my area??? has anyone in the northern states caught any bass this big or bigger, what did u use to catch it? what baits or lures are known for catching the monster size bass? i go to a secret lake, that nobody fishes at, on the average i catch 4-5 pounders all day. anyways i can get the larger bass to bite?? " not an estimate i have a digital scale". my lure of choice are senko's, spinnerbaits, and top water poppers, any suggestions?
That is a really nice bass for the north. I live in michigan and the biggest ive ever caught was 5.5 lbs. I would stick with the senkos, although I would suggest the yum dinger over the senko. I would try a junebug color or a black and blue in the regular style or the newer forktail style. Almost all colors I've use have produce large bass and a quite a few of them. For clearer waters use darker colors and for stained or murky use brighter colors. You also need to "match the hatch." Identify the forage, baitfish and try to match their color the best that you can. I would try all different ways to rig it. Wacky, Texas rigged, carolina rig, and experiment with all possible ways. These lures are quite versatile so you will catch bass almost anyway you use them.
Good luck!
