Bass Fishing - Spinner Baits?
How do you fish/work a spinner bait?
I've never caught anything with a spinnerbait..
What about a buzz bait?
Any help would be great! Thanks!
Spinnerbaits...
They are a great bait for bass when the water is cold (spring and fall). You can cover a lot of water fairly quickly, and they can help you locate fish. They are good around weeds, stumps, trees, and over cover, because they rarely get snagged.
In the spring I use spinnerbaits for bass quite a bit...they can be very effective when fish are shallow. Use smaller spinner baits in the spring, like 1/4 or 1/8 oz. White is a great go-to color in most waters.
In the fall, spinnerbaits come into their own again for bass. Go with a larger bait, like a 3/8 or 1/2 oz bait and fish slightly deeper waters.
Buzz Baits...
This is a warm water, low light (mornings and evenings) pattern for the most part. I haven't used them much, but I'm sure they work when conditions are right. I think you could also use them at night for surface fishing for big bass...this would also be a summer pattern.
Note: Spinnerbaits are GREAT for pike too...I've caught a lot of pike on these in larger sizes. I'll often add a stinger hook (a single hook that has a large eye, made for slipping over the hook of a spinnerbait to add hooking power)
In all, the spinnerbait particularly is a great bait that you should get a little more familiar with.
I recently wrote an article on my website on our top 5 lures...check that out at this link...
