Bass Tube Size Question?
So I'm reading the catalog for a tackle retailer, and I'm seeing Bass tubes offered in every size from 2 3/4 inches up to 4 1/2 inches. What size tube and jighead would you use to target largemouth? I'm in Texas and just looking to get into fishing tubes, but don't know how to start
If your targeting Largemouth Bass, in Texas, I'd suggest you start with (at least) a 4" Tube with a SOLID head. (I use a 4.5" exclusively because it can take a 4-5/0 EWG hook and has a nice big profile for larger Bass. The only time I downsize my tube is when I'm targeting Smallmouth.)
Why the solid head?
They started making solid-headed tubes because people were missing fish with normal hollow-headed tubes due to the offset hook misaligning during the strike. So, it's very important to get a solid headed tube if you intend to rig it Texas Style, (some call it "Florida Rigged").
Understand, you can use a Tube Jig with solid heads too.
I have found the BEST hook for Tube fishing is the Gamakatsu, Skip Gap - http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_90007_175003000_175000000_175003000_175-3-0 They don't cause the Tube to bunch up nearly as much as a regular Offset hook causing missing fish.
Here are some suggestions for Tubes. Please read the reviews given for further info-

Hope this helps ya?
