I want to start tying flies for trout and pan what should i get ?
Right now I have nothing for tying flies should I buy a kit or separate tying equipment .And whats the least i need to get started.
I don't like kits. Most of them are 100% junk. But if you are unsure in your tying future, then it may be a wiser decision financially.
I believe Orvis sells a kit that is better than most. I've also seen a couple decent looking ones on ebay.
I started out with a kit when I was around ten years old. It was almost okay to learn with. But everything, tools (vise, scissors, bobin), hackles, thread, dubbing-even the peacock herl and pheasant tails were pure garbage. But I did learn and developed a true interest in the hobby.
If you think you may be above that introductory level, check out anglersworkshop.com and kaufmanstreamborn.com. They are both top notch suppliers. You can even call them up and they will answer any of your questions in depth.
Don't forget to invest in a couple tying books. Some give detailed instructions, others just fly "recipes. Anything by Randall Kaufman, Bryan Chan, Skip Morris, and any magazine article by Shane Stalcup (the guy has reinvented tying).
Good luck and don't get discouraged.
