skittering.....a lost art?
my grandfather 40 or so years ago.....used cane poles and fished in a method he called skittering......it took me many years and I never found a 15 foot cane pole, but came accross a collapseable 16 foot crappie pole, (cabela's has everything!),(it must be utopia!) ........I have it rigged with 4 wt floating fly line and it just seems its not right ........ any ideas on how to rig and how to fish with this even with the newer lures........we used to use the belly flaps off of chain pickeral (of course nothing was wasted)........... those pickeral are sure bony tho...........
Sounds like you had a great fishing mentor in your grandfather. My granddad taught me lots of old-timey fishing methods too but I never heard of 'skittering'.
I found some tips on using a long limber crappie pole I hope you can use.
Here it is:

Edit:
Turbo Tails & Crappie Thunder jigs by Blakemore and Marabou jigs are the ticket for doodlin.
