Fly Fishing Lure

Do you have to fly fish to catch trout?
I'm going camping in a NC state park that has 17 miles of trout streams. The parks and recreation site say's there are brook, rainbow, and brown trout. I have never fished for trout and was wondering if I can use a small spinning reel I have, or if that is a waste of time. I'm not really trying to go out and buy fly fishing gear. If I can use a spinning reel, what kind of lures do I need to use, and what are some simple techniques? Thank you in advance.
Unless the regulations say fly fishing only, you can use spinning gear. If you have 2 to 4 pound line, that's about right for a small stream and small trout.
In a small stream I like using small spinners (Mepps #0 or 1, or Roostertails). Cast them upstream, retrieve them just faster than the current (to get some action). Cast into the rough water above pools and retrieve down into the pools, or along the bank, or past rocks, logs, other structure. After a few casts, move on -- you'll have caught or spooked all the fish in that section of the stream.
You fish bait by tossing it upstream to the same kind of areas and letting the current carry it. Fish in streams expect their food to be coming from upstream. Check with local tackle shops for the best bait -- it could be anything from worms to power bait.
