Do you miss songs like "Headstrong" by Trapt?
It seems like there was a lot of great angst nu metal in the early 2000's. Songs like "Headstrong" by Trapt and "Fly From the Inside" by Shinedown. Those songs have attitude and angst, but also have some great hooks, harmonies, and dynamics. But most importantly they rocked hard and pumped you up! They were also trendy. At the time I thought it was cool but recently I've started to appreciate that stuff even more cause I haven't heard any good "new" nu metal.
I just listened to some of Trapt's 2008 material and it's completely poppy watered down nu metal. There weren't any great hooks, strong guitar parts, or motivation that compares to their earlier stuff. Seriously why does EVERYTHING new have to suck now? Good nu metal bands are converting to romantic pop rock pansies just to make a buck, even though heavy songs are what put them on the map.
