Make sure that you get rid of valuables in the house and hide them somewhere so they don't get broken and only invite people you trust. It sounds lame to say it, but I've been to numerous house parties where a car's been stolen, a wardrobe's been broken, and a trampoline's been broken, as well as things being stolen and people spilling stuff in like the parent's bedrooms, so just be aware that you might need to just tell everyone where they're allowed to go and where's off limits.
Nobody likes the stressed host who runs around cleaning up and telling people off during the party. Leave the cleaning till the morning unless something gets spilled and you have to deal with it straight away. Don't tell people what to do too much unless they're being totally out of order like trashing the house or causing trouble. If they do then let them know immediately that they'll have to leave if they continue. It seems harsh, but it's worth it rather than your house getting ruined and you getting in trouble.
If you're on a budget then could you maybe ask people to bring their own drinks? That way everyone has something that they like. Alchohol is pretty important for house parties, but again don't overdo it because cleaning up sick in the morning is no fun as I know from experience haha.
Make sure you have an ipod and speakers or some sort of music, a house party without music always seems a bit empty, if you don't have one then maybe you can use music channels or ask a friend to bring one. I'd ask a friend to bring their ipod/mp3 anyway so you can change music and have something a bit different. Get some classic party food like chips and stuff, and maybe order food when people get there like pizza or indian or something - then if anyone wants anything extra they can pay for it.
Make sure you invite enough people - but by the sounds of 50-60 is A LOT! But I guess it depends how big your house is so if you can fit that many, go for it. There's always garden space if it gets a little crowded indoors. Try and let neighbours know that you're having a party if you can and explain it nicely, so if it's noisy they'll know what's going on and that you're allowed to have a party and they won't call the police or anything.
I can't really think of anything else right now but I hope this helps!
edit - Sorry about the alcohol thing - I know that I was at parties with alcohol at 15 when it was just friends but whatever. It's pretty common at house parties to ask people to bring their own drinks, but if you want to then provide them. Just buy like 2litre bottles of cola, fanta, etc
