Luggage question: will the airport allow me to check in a trunk? ?
I will be flying from the east coast to San Diego next month, and I recently purchased a 15.5x30x12 inch trunk, and I was wondering if the airlines allow this type of luggage?
Mind you, this is a very lightweight type of trunk; I bought it at Wal-Mart, and its a little cheap, but durable, and lightweight, and I'm worried the stingy airlines will deny it. It weighs just under 20 pounds empty.
Thanks a million for any replies to this.
by the way this isn't a heavy steel or wooden trunk or chest...like I said it was from Wal-Mart and was pretty cheap)$24)
It is made of some kind of really light plywood/paperboard material.
I tried standing on it to test its durability and it almost caved in. Lol.
Hello dear!
Yes Airlines allow Trunks as long as long as it meets their weight and length & width requirements
But its Not recommended for a regular traveler.
These are often made of steel or wood and can be quite heavy 20 pounds will seem like alot after you have your stuff in it. But they are very durable and can be shipped.
As a lightweight option, check out cargo bags, also called soft-sided trunks.
Often trunks are used as a make-shift coffee table or end table (cube trunk ). Cedar trunks are nicer for this purpose.
Trunks are good for moving and for long stays. They are ideal for students going away to college or camp, plus they act as an extra storage device.
Not recommended for traveling by plane, but they are okay for the bus or train.
Because of their weight you may want to invest in a luggage cart or get a wheeled trunk.
