I left my cat at a friend's house because I had to go out of town. The cat managed to pull open the cold air return vent and hasn't been seen since. She comes out and uses the litter box and eats from her dish when no one is around. But she hasn't been seen in four weeks. I set up a live trap, baited with tuna, but she hasn't taken the bait yet. I'm afraid that if we start pulling out duct work she will panic and run to the furnace. I've tried coaxing, bribing, and sitting quietly by the vent for hours but she only comes out when no people are around. Does anyone know of a simple trap that would cover the vent after the cat comes out to use the litter box? All suggestions are welcome.
You may need a professional that can block the vent near the furnace so there is no way the cat can get that far.
I feel for you - we had a bunch of barn kittens (5 weeks old) that went down the duct work and we had to take it apart to catch them as they were somewhat wild. Was not a fun thing to do, but we managed to catch them all and fix the duct so they could not get down there again.
