Loomis Rod Size
choosing correct tip top rod guides?
how do i know wich size tip top guide is right for my g. loomis imx sjr723-21/6' med-heavy fast action 8-15lb 3/16-5/8 oz rod and my imx sjr720-21/6' mag-light ex-fast action 4-8lb 1/32-1/4oz rod and there both spinning rods
The guide ring for both rods is the same - 7mm
The are Fuji Alconites (BFAT)
The SJR723 has a size 5.0 tip.
The SJR720 has a size 4.5 tip.

PERSONALLY - If I were changing/replacing a tip, and I was going to be using the rod for braid, I would up the guide type to SiC rings. It doesn't really matter if it's the titanium framed SiC or the stainless one since both are lighter than the original Alconites and have the same ring material. This isn't a necessary upgrade, and in all honesty, doesn't make all that much difference since Alconites are pretty hard and resist grooving pretty well. It's just a thought since you have to do it anyway....
