Master Fishing Lure

What's the absolute best way to catch LARGE Rainbow trout?
I'm from northern Utah and have fished for rainbow trout my whole life. If I go to a place with alot of brown trout, I can catch big ones all day on certain lures and stuff, but I've never been able to master catching the bigger rainbow trout. I catch the occasional 21-25 incher, but I never do it consistently, and I know there are plenty of them (big ones) in the river I fish. I can't seem to get rainbows to bite the lures I use for big browns alot. Nightcrawlers are just sort of hit and miss on the big ones. And I usually only catch the really little ones when I'm flyfishing. I have noticed there are alot of crawfish in the river I fish, so I'd imagine the big ones would bite good on those, but there to hard to catch right now because the dams are all frozen over.
Any suggestions?
When you are fly fishing. You can use some very small flies and get some big trout. Some flies that are size 18 on down to 32 can catch some big trout. I have used Trico dry flies, Griffiths gnat, some small ant patterns. I also used various small nymphs that are in sizes 16 on down to 20. Nymphs like the hares ear, prince nymph, zug bug, all in various sizes. I have also used some of those nymph patterns that were beadheads. They have some flies that are much smaller and they are size 32 that is a very small fly. One thing if you ever try these small flies out... "don't open your fly box when it is windy out." I know these are very small flies, but they are very effective. I have had some people try and give me a hard time when they have seen me using these very small flies and say something like... "what are you trying to catch the baby minnows." They soon stopped giving me a hard time when they seen me hooking big trout that were 20 inches and some that were 30 inches. One other thing when using these small flies to hook the trout all you have to do is raise your rod and make some tension to hook them. If you try to set the hook like you do with bigger hooks... that will not work when using these small flies. Most of time when you hook the fish with these small flies you will notice the small hook has hooked them around their teeth.
You also can use flies that are big like leech patterns, mouse patterns, various streamers that look like small fish. Sometimes trout will be gluttons and go after something big. When using streamers that look like small fish try doing various stripping in the fly. That is one thing I learned to do and found that certain ways of stripping in the fly will get the big trouts attention.
Edit; There is a big fly made by fly fisher John Barr it is called the meat whistle. This fly comes in different colors and it is made to imitate different things that fish eat like... small fish, crawdads.
Also, if you choose to try some small flies, you can bring some big flies with you to change up. When you are fishing you should be able to see the size of some bugs that are being born and judge what size of fly to use... what color is close to those bugs being born. That is when those small flies can be very productive, because if you pumped a trouts stomach you will see small bugs in their stomachs.
