Are midge fly larvae carnivorous?
I had a bowl-full of toad tadpoles, about 20 of them, which I had picked up from a nearly dried up puddle. I had had them for about 2 weeks, feeding them frog pellets every 3rd day. They were doing fine and developing: some had back legs. Then I wake up one morning and they're all dead, and there are also these C-shaped red squirming things which I identified to be midge larvae. Would they have eaten my tadpoles? There are also smaller sqirming opaque things in the bowl, which I am unsure if they are an earlier stage or different type of larvae. What are these, and could they have killed my tadpoles? Help please.
I can't see anything you describe taking out 20 in one night, one every couple of days maybe, something else happened to them besides the things you see swimming around, sorry don't know what though.
