few questions about guppy and goldfish?
I have 7 guppy and 2 goldfish in my tank {they are ok together i had them for more than a year}
1: My friend says that it is ok to give my fish small flys that you see in the house and he said that the fish really likes it is that true?
2. I have 4 month old guppy in my tank and it is big enough not to fit in there mouth and i think that it is not growing that much, it is almost as big as a finger nail how big are they suppose to be at 4 months {pictures would be great}
3.WHY do my baby guppy attack each other? they chase each other and nip their tales, is it because of territory?{there parents, mostly females, also attack each other when ever they are going to have babies soon , could the baby guppy get that from mothers}
Well, first, you don't say what size your tank is or what kind of goldfish you have, so I would have to reserve my comment on whether they are "okay" together to this: 1) Goldfish are coldwater fish. Guppies are tropical fish. Guppies need warmer water than goldfish. Goldfish can tolerate the warmer waters that guppies need, but warm water will lower a goldfish's immunity and ability to fight off disease; and 2) each goldfish needs at least 10 gallons of water per fish and if they are the slim-bodied goldfish, they need at least 20 gallons of water per fish. A year in the life of a goldfish is a drop in the bucket to its potential lifespan. Maybe you haven't had problems yet with your goldfish, but unless you have at least a 30 gallon tank for these fish (and I'd really rather you separate the goldfish and guppies) you will eventually have problems. I promise.
1. Yes, your friend is correct, but only to a degree. Fish like protein-based foods, like houseflies, BUT, houseflies carry millions of germs, so it is not suggested that you feed your fish houseflies. It is much better to choose sterile, properly prepared protein-based foods that you buy at reputable fish stores. These are, bloodworms, krill, plankton, brine shrimp, daphnia, etc.
2. Your guppy is probably about the correct size for 4 months, but I am concerned. If you are mixing guppies and goldfish, in probably too small a tank, and also allowing the guppies to breed, you are in a lot of trouble with your water quality.
3. Darwin's Survival of the Fittest.
