Pregnant Australian Soldier in Afghanistan Miscarries on trip home!?
A married Australian soldier who became pregnant while on home leave was made to stay on while the position came undere attack, she was made to carry her 30kg plus pack. When she was finally allowed to fly home, she miscarried on the plane.
Very sad, but does this pose the question about women being in the front line?
I have no problems with women being there and please don't all of the feminists shout me down, just would like to hear peoples thoughts.
oii, what a sad story. I did a class on gender and war recently, and we found that some women soldiers got pregnant on purpose because they wanted to be taken off duty (not that I'm accusing her of that...) Despite all that, the military often isn't anxious to lose their "men" to something as "insignificant" as a pregnancy, so pregant soldiers aren't always treated all that well (in fact, we heard stories where they were treated with downright contempt by the higher ups).
I don't have a problem with women on the front line either, but pregnant women should definitely be treated with respect and consideration. She should have been taken off duty immediately or at the very least be removed from any area of danger; and I'm not a doctor, but isn't 30kg a little heavy for an expecting mom to lift?
She should sue.
