I recently decided to stretch my lobe piercings from a 14 gauge to a 12. My goal is get to something small like an eight or a six. Anyway, they were out of tapers when I went in, so they just put stainless-steel hoops in. They guy who put them in is very experienced and has pretty large gauges himself, yet everyone seems to think stretching with a hoop is a bad idea. They say it is more painful and doesn't work as well. Are tapers better for stretching? What are the pros and cons of stretching with hoops and tapers? Any help is appreciated! 
Its best to use tapers because they gradually stretch it up to the size, causing less damage to your ear. Using a hoop is a lot harder on your ear because you are forcing something larger then what your ear can hold into it, which means it'll develope more scar tissue. So if you can use a taper do that, your ears will be much healthier.
