Is there any way to change the lip on a Rapala? ?
I have a very rare Rapala Husky jerk that I broke the lip on and i cant seem to find another one. So I want to change the lip on it. Is there any way to such a thing without ruining the lure?
Mike's pretty much on target with his reply. I am a full time carver of realistic fish and I use the power tools like Dremel and Foredom with all the cutting discs, burrs, and bits that work so well. I have designed lures for manufacturers and have modified some of my own. Given the task as you have described it, I would FIRST try to match the part broken off with Plexiglas of the same thickness using super-glue to secure the two pieces together and then sanding the added piece to match the shape of the original. If that isn't practical, I would remove only the exposed part of the lip and create a new one out of the same thickness of Plexiglas (available from any hobby shop). I would NOT attempt to take the lip out of the lure with a Dremel as it is permanently attached in such a way that you run serious risk of destroying the integrity of the lure. Patching the flaws with any filler is bound to throw off the delicate balance of the lure which will change the way it runs in the water and will probably destroy its effectiveness. The restoration can be done, but may be best left to the experts if you are really trying to maintain its collector value. Good luck.
