Can A Fish See, Smell (Taste), Or Hear Better?

Im Going Saltwater Fishing, And Was Looking For Lures. I've Heard Fish Smell Better & I Should Use Berkley Gulp. I've Heard Fish Can See Better, So I Can Use An Electronic Flashing Lure. Then I Heard They Hear Better, So I Should Get A Rattling One.

Which Is True?

You said you are going saltwater fishing. For what? Where? The quick answer to your question is that all three are correct. Personally I do not like Berkley gulp, but I have personal reasons. Many salt water fish such as Dolphin, barracuda, yellowtail, wahoo and tuna are what I call vision or sight predators. The see it, run it down and eat it. Others, such as catfish, sturgeon, many types of sharks, drum have an extremely good sense of smell. A shark for example can detect blood traces as small as 1 part per 100,000 or greater.

All fish can sense vibrations well, due to the lateral line receptors in most species. If you are in the ocean I prefer to chum and then throw the bait in the area of the chum slick or use live bait such as anchovies, sardines, squid, ballyhoo mullet ect...

If you want to use a sent attractor try a little "smelly jelly" I have found it to be very effective when used in combination with soft plastic swim baits. Good luck catching!
