What is the best rod and reel make?
Shimano, Daiwa, Abu Garcia, Mitchell, or Berkeley?
Shimano, Daiwa, and Abu have always been great producers of great rods and reels. The best depends on the situation and which is tailor made for what you need. The product is only as good as the sum of its parts so what is used to make the rod or reel. New carbon fiber parts versus plastic, and aluminum help make the brands cutting edge and long lasting.
Always get a product that will hold up for what you intend to use them. Saltwater equipment are made with rust resistant materials to combat the harsh salt air and water. Graphite, and carbon fiber materials also reduce weight and fatigue. But with anything these features always cost more.
I prefer ABU Garcia Conventional style reels, and Shimano and Daiwa Spinning outfits. The Abu are a classic staple and have always with held any task I have put them to. The rods I prefer are Tiki brand. They seem to be a good price for a better rod. But I fish in saltwater so you may only need freshwater equipment. Shimano and Daiwa are both great brands for that type fishing. Berkley seems to me to be a walmart brand type, but they specialize in accessories and tackle mainly.
