MADE IN ThE USA..........?
Just a short poll here guys, but does it affect you when buying an item of fishing tackle if its made in the USA or elsewhere. I mean abu Garcia reels, swedish made and im happy with that, however the newer 7000s are made in china, personally i like some thing that was made where it was first invented, in this case sweden.
How about you?
I agree 100% about the way workers are treated by these large companies, no health and safety and poor pay.
I guess I feel the same for various reasons.
There is more of a feeling of authenticity when it comes from its origin country. I feel that the product is of better quality even if the manufacturing process is the same in say, China.
However you have to look at a couple ethical concerns with outsourcing a job from country "A" to a developing nation w/ cheap labor:
1. Obviously the company is worrying more about money than customer satisfaction over a quality product. Maybe the quality is the same, however the stigma of once Swedish made product now from China screams "Cheap". I don't like businesses that care more about money than me.
2. Outsourcing jobs from any country to another means they don't care about the workers of the origin country. They don't care about the workers of the developing nation they move to either because the company just wants to exploit cheap labor.
3. These companies that were once bound by laws to protect workers (working conditions, lenth of workday/week, chemical exposure, fair wages, etc...) usually do not exist in developing nations. It is up to the company to protect the workers which usually never happens; you have probably heard the horror stories of how these people are being exploited and their lives and safety (physical/mental/emotional) are in jeopardy.
Thats my stance.
