Can I put this 7wt fly line on this 6wt fly reel?
I have a 7wt Rio Outbound integrated line that I want to put on my 6wt Helios reel. Is that something I can do without any issues? Where I fish I have never caught a fish over 7lbs and I was thinking since the running portiion of the Rio Outbound is so thin it might not be an issue to go on my 6wt reel?
Yes, it should be fine. The only issue I can think of is that you might have room for slightly less backing on the reel if the 7wt line has a diameter much greater than the 6wt. In any case, it is much more important that your rod and line are well matched than it is to have your reel and line exactly paired. Just pay attention to that backing issue (that is, make sure that when you have the reel all lined up that your line is not piled up above the arbor). Set your drag properly. Do all that and the outfit should function without problems.
