Mini pen fishing rods, im thinking of getting one of the pen sized fishing rods fods for my son?
and i was wondering how exactly the mini baitcasting reel works? i obviously know these rods are a bit of a gadget and wont be as good as a full size rod but i reckon it will be ideal and loads of fun for me and the lad, ive only ever used a spinning reel so i have no idea how one of the baitcasting reels work especially this small, how do you stop the line from coming out when it hits the water? (on a spinning reel the arm flips over to stop it coming out any more) also are they easy to cast with? i can see there is a small black button on the mini baitcasting reels, what is that? is it a sort of brake? has anyone used one of the pen sized rods and baitcasting reels? the one im on about they sell on nauticalia uk and loads on ebay, i'd really be grateful for any advice or tips, thanks alot.
1.) and i was wondering how exactly the mini baitcasting reel works?
A baitcasting reel will be a tussle if you've never used one. I don't recommend starting out with one. But, here's what you do, Get in your position as if you were casting, put your thumb over the line release button and the spool with line in it, when you follow through, press the button at the beginning, and when it hits the water, hold your thumb over the spool of line so it doesn't come out. Watch out, if not timed right you will get something they call a "bird's nest". That's when all the line bundles up and twists up into a reel, and it's hard to get out. Anyway, after you held the spool, reel in the line and you'll hear a "clicking" sound. Now, no line will be able to come out.

3.) also are they easy to cast with?
No, they're not. If you're a beginner, i highly recommend not getting a baicasting reel if you're not experienced with one. If they have a spinning model, get it. Or even a spincast model.
4.) i can see there is a small black button on the mini baitcasting reels, what is that?
There's many small buttons. Where is it located? There's a button for letting the line out, and they're is a drag button. And some baitcasting reels have more than that.
5.) is it a sort of brake?
It's definitely not a brake. Because, you stop the line with your thumb and then you reel in until you hear it click.
6.) has anyone used one of the pen sized rods and baitcasting reels?
Nope, I've never used one. But, i know enough about baitcasting reels to inform you.
Well, i answered every single question.
Hope i helped ya out.
