What Rod/Reel, Line combo should I use?
I received a large gift card to "bassproshop" and I am looking to buy a whole new fishing rig. In the past I had used a very simple spincasting rod for a long time and though I fish a good deal I could use some help in selecting a rod. Something versatile would be excellent, that I could use for bass, trout, catfish, and possibly pike while being able to swap between live bait, lures, etc. I have 170 dollars on the card. Please help.
So you want to upgrade from a Spincaster to a Spinning outfit?
And you have $170 to play with?
Here's my picks:
1. Pflueger "Supreme" Model 8035- ($99)- Fantastic reel with excellent feedback. The ONLY magnesium reel you can purchase at this price! (Magnesium reels are very lite-weight and durable.) I own the Supreme and find it rivals my more expensive Shimano reels. A STEAL at $99!
Match your Pflueger Supreme reel with a 7' Ugly Stik Lite model SP1170-2M ($39)
The Lite Series has a nice cork handle AND the same durability of the original Ugly Stik's. Ugly Stiks can also handle the rigors of catching anything from a large Catfish to a small Trout.
The problem?
You want an outfit to catch Trout, Bass, Catfish, and Bass with live bait/lures Etc!
Generally, you would need various outfits to achieve this goal.
For example:
A Bass outfit will be too heavy for Trout. A large Catfish outfit will be too heavy for Bass. (and so forth!)
Ugly Stiks are great rods but you will have to compromise in some regard with "sensitivity".
With that knowledge in mind I still believe an Ugly Stik is the way to go.
Line- Power Pro or Berkley Fireline 4/10

Hope this helps? Good fishing!
