South Bend Fish

Is south bend products a good fishing brand?
south bend is a great choice for the novice angler- they make a variety of hooks, weights, rods, reels, and other equipment at a very inexpensive price. However, their rods lack certain actions and the sensitivity of a more expensive rod. I use their hooks when i fish for bluegill because you can buy a pack of 100 for $0.99 and you don't really need expensive hooks for panfish. If you fish for a larger game fish (such as catfish, musky, pike, etc...) then try going for a better rod. Shakespeare has a "Tiger Spinning Rod" which is around the same price, but has a lot more strength. For fish like largemouth, trout, smallmouth, or any other gamefish that's a little bit "smarter" (musky included- very intelligent fish) then use a more expensive rod, at the least an Ugly Stik. these fish can pick up on the difference in realism between a lure fished on a higher-quality rod than a more inexpensive rod. You could also try Ebay or your local flea market to get a good deal on a higher quality rod and reel.
another tip when buying a rod is that you want the most sensitive. hold the rod like you are fishing with it and then rest the tip on the center of a friend's neck. now get your friend to start talking. the more you can "feel" him talking, the better.
good luck!
(wow this is a little long, and i over-answered your question. sorry haha)
