Does someone hear of a kind two-way break system Trolling Reels(Big Game Reels)?
You heard of Front Drag and Rear Drag Spinning Reels, but do you hear of a kind Front Drag and Rear Drag Big Game Reels?
In spinning reels, the front or rear drag refers to where the knob to adjust the drag is located, but the internal workings of the reel is basically the same.
In big game reels, there are two common systems -- a "star" drag, where there's a star-shaped knob on the same axis as the handle, and a "lever" drag where you move a lever forward or back to adjust the tension.
Internally, star drag reels have a stack of drag washers around the handle axis, and the tighter they're squeezed together the more drag tension there is. The more surface area of the washers, the smoother the drag, especially at very heavy drag settings.
The lever on lever drag reels allows you to set the tension pretty precisely, and make accurate adjustments quickly. Inside, they have a single huge washer as big as the side of the spool, which presses against the spool to produce drag. There are also some big game reels made which have a "double drag" -- that is, a big drag washer on each side of the spool, giving twice the surface area and the ability to button down the drag to a very high tension.
Another difference with lever drag reels is that there is no gear shift to take the reel in and out of gear -- to get into freespool to cast or let out line you just back the drag off to zero tension.
