Squid Trolling Big

What career should I choose?
I already have a BA in English literature and have had experience in business, but with the current job market I've been thinking a lot about heading back to school. The problem is, I can't figure out what I'm most passionate about. I'm sort of a jack of all trades but a master at none.
I've thought a lot about nursing, but I wonder if I'm talking myself into it because everyone says there are a ton of jobs in the field, it's a great career for most, etc.
If it helps at all, I'm a pretty big nerd, I'd love to have a unique career, I work hard when I enjoy what I'm doing but have a hard time staying motivated if I can't see any point to it, I love squid, sports and art. I know it's a shot in the dark, but I figured I'd troll around for some advice. Thanks in advance.
I know what you are going through and I get you. I am going to make some assumptions and I will assume you are on the younger side, maybe mid or late 20's? Maybe I am way off, Forgive me if I am.
-The most important thing is to determine what your purpose is here, what are you here to contribute and how you can make this a better world, what do you really care about. Of course this is at the Macro level.
Second: At a more practical level you want to be in a career that has potential in the future and jobs. That will allow you to thrive financially and have no regrets, and most of all to enjoy what you do.
You mentioned Sports and Nursing, so for example why not combine both and become a Sports Physiotherapist? you'll have plenty of jobs there, but that would require going back to school which is fine too. Keep in mind that nowadays the average working person changes careers an average of two times, sometimes more. I have changed careers twice, from being in Architecture (my mother's idea, not mine) for 12 years I didn't like the politics and back stabbing of the corporations and ultimately I was not happy, so went back to school and became a Psychotherapist which I really loved, after a while I got stressed and tired of dealing with people's problems and wanted to work alone and became a Day Trader (self taught but very hard).
So, where is the rush? There is nothing wrong with setting yourself a dateline of say a year... to Think and decide, while working in a low paying job, anything will do and doing it without any regrets, and taking the time to meditate and find the answers within, meditate and ask for answers from within plus read some resources (see below).
You and no one else knows what will make you happy, pros's and con's of things, things you hate and things you love, people or alone? Climbing the ladder or hating the ladder, being a self employed entrepreneur ( if you choose this take a business MBA) or working for someone. Is money and success very important to you and you don't mind long hours to get it? or you want to own your time?
No matter what you choose you will find drawbacks and risks in whatever you do, that is the nature of life, but what can ameliorate those feelings is that you love what you are doing and you are grateful that on top you get paid for doing it.
I would definitely recommend you do the following:
1) Read: What Color Is My Parachute? by Bowles - This is a roadmap to discovery of what you like.
2) Become a reporting investigator and Interview at least 5 people working in and around the careers you narrow down to, before engaging in any investment of time or money on your part. And ask them to be honest and what do they really hate about their jobs...in confidence of course, and do it with the most tact you can muster, and using the right ettiquette (thank you notes and being truly grateful).
3) Set up a carefully detailed plan to escape the low paying job at the right time. Remember never, ever burn bridges, always leave a great impression, and most of all don't give any attention to the Ego's you will find in your life, just ignore them and keep walking to your destination.
and last and most important: Always do the right thing, because the world has a way to get things back at you in unexpected ways. And if you mess up fix it promptly so you can sleep at nights.
Ane remember you can be and do anything you want.
That's it!
Good luck.
