It isn’t all perfume and rose
a worm invades the bud
a hateful storm, cold winter throes,
or suffocating flood.
Life scorns, it mocks its own behests
And stares unsparingly; it jests.
I shadow caged
I shadow caged
In this gangrenous iron nest.
You reach for dreams, past barring threats
a wild eyed woman’s pelt
You hide in closets, silhouette
from righteous Father’s belt.
Infected grass and putrid crud
My cradle underneath this mud
Time disowned bridge
Time disowned bridge
Delays the freezing of my blood.
The bridge strengthened, supported and sheltered that friend of mine. And yes BG and Cassie, a dysfunctional family's what it's about. LC and Fred, nice poems that you should post. I'd like you all to meet (you've met them already) my newest contacts: Parlet and Skinny.
This is quite simply one of the best poems I have read here by any of the poets. It hits me like a kick in the gut. These kids, by turns abused and neglected, were my friends from childhood. Your poem reminds me that growing up in a poor, single parent, but loving household was a blessing! This makes me shake and makes my eyes burn. WOW!
